OBJECTIVE:

¤ Conduct applied research related to Stock Preparation, wet end optimization, Paper Making, coating and quality improvement

¤ Execute mill specific sponsored Projects.

¤ Human Resource Development for paper industry.

¤ Conduct R&D work on alkaline/neutral/enzymatic deinking, bleaching and contaminant removal technologies for adoption by RCF based mills.

¤ Quantify and control stickies generation and accumulation in RCF stock.

¤ Control paper machine deposit formation

¤ Application of enzymes, oxygen and ozone for quality upgradation of RCF pulps.

¤ Grading of indigenous recovered paper.

¤ Performance evaluation and trouble shooting of RCF based mills.

¤ Provide consultancy & technical services to RCF based mills, Chemical suppliers, scrap dealers & overseas clients.

¤ Establish mechanism to enhance recovery rate of indigenous RCP.

¤ Conduct pilot plant trials on pulping & bleaching and color removal technologies.

¤ Execute contract/collaborative research programmes with International R&D institutes.

¤ Explore possibilities for bilateral cooperation with other countries through Joint commission.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

¤ Technical Know-how on filler loading, fibre fractionation, effective alkali/neutral sizing using precipitated Calcium carbonate.

¤ Acquired state-of-art facility for separation and quantification of macrostickies and hotmelts in the recycled fibre stock .

¤ Developed integrated methodology for quantification of macrostickies/microstickies /colloidal stickies in RCF stock employing dynamic drainage jar, Pulmac Master screen and DCM extraction techniques .

¤ Successfully developed enzymatic deinking and oxidative deinking technology as an alternative to alkaline deinking for quality upgradation of RCF using enzyme, oxygen & ozone. 30-40% cost reduction achieved with enzyme deinking technology.

¤ Successfully developed & demonstrated electroflocculation process on pilot scale for reduction of color from bleach effluent and agro-residue black liquors.

¤ Successfully completed pilot plant trials on pulping & bleaching of Malaysian Kenaf to achieve a brightness of +80% ISO.

¤ Successfully completed CPPRI-CTP (France) collaborative project on “understanding & Control of Pitch & Deposits in papermaking”.
